According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it is "clear" that Ukraine will not be the final stop on Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion, and it is critical that the West does not postpone delivery of weaponry to assist fight Russia's soldiers.
While the West was negotiating tank supplies for Kyiv, the Ukrainian leader told the Munich Security Conference via video connection on Friday that the Kremlin was considering ways to "strangle" the former Soviet republic of Moldova just west of Ukraine.
"It's clear that Ukraine will not be his final stop," Zelenskyy remarked. "He intends to continue his movement all the way,... including all the other republics that were once part of the Soviet bloc."
Moldova, which lies between Ukraine and Romania, has frequently been at the centre of a conflict between Moscow and the West. Tensions in Moldova have increased on a regular basis, owing to a Kremlin-backed separatist area on its eastern border, where Russia has stationed some 1,500 troops.
On Monday, Moldova's president, Maia Sandu, warned Moscow was preparing to remove her administration and instal an illegal one that "would place our nation at the disposal of Russia in order to derail the European integration process".
She accused Russia of attempting to utilise Moldova in its conflict with Ukraine.
