Fiorentina defeats Juventus to end the Serie A season

Although it may have been a meaningless match for Juventus, their 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina in Serie A on Saturday evening ended their 2021/22 season and possibly an era. Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala made their final outings, and by the time the 2022/23 season begins, there will be a substantial number of new faces at the Turin club. Massimiliano Allegri has done what was expected of him this season, finishing in the top four and achieving qualifying for the Champions League. Still, he openly admits that it has not been an easy campaign. Dusan Vlahovic returned to his previous club as a substitute, with Moise Kean taking his place at the start.

On the other hand, Fiorentina benefited from the encounter because they were able to secure the final UEFA Europa Conference League qualification berth by placing seventh. On the verge of halftime, Alfred Duncan opened the scoring for the hosts, but La Viola had been in command of the game before that. Duncan was first to a loose ball inside the penalty area and blasted a goal into the top corner of the net after the referee rejected a penalty appeal in the 42nd minute. Fiorentina was the more attacking side early in the second half. They had another penalty claim knocked down by referee Daniele Chiffi, who believed the Juventus defender had recovered the ball cleanly.

With 12 minutes remaining, Krzysztof Piatek forced a fantastic save from Carlo Pinsoglio, although the authorities eventually gave the hosts a penalty in second-half injury time. Leonardo Bonucci was adjudged to have tripped an attacking player, and Nico Gonzalez struck his spot-kick low into the net to seal Fiorentina’s victory and a seventh-place finish.
