More than 100 people have lost their lives in Gaza as the conflict between Israel and Hamas intensifies, according to a statement from the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. The death toll has risen sharply since the resumption of hostilities, reaching a grim total of 109, as reported by Reuters.
Amid the escalating violence, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a dire warning about the critical state of Gaza's health system. Even before the recent surge in fighting, the healthcare infrastructure in the region was described as being on its knees, with hospitals resembling scenes from a "horror movie," according to WHO officials.
Richard Peeperkorn, the WHO representative in Gaza, expressed deep concern over the resumption of violence, emphasizing the catastrophic state of the healthcare situation. Speaking to reporters, Peeperkorn stated, "We are extremely concerned about the resumption of violence. The health system in Gaza has been crippled by the ongoing hostilities. It cannot afford to lose more hospitals."
