Hodeidah, Yemen – Israel has launched airstrikes targeting the Yemeni ports of Hodeidah and Ras Isa, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing regional conflict. The strikes, confirmed by both the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, targeted critical infrastructure including power plants and a seaport.
According to the IDF, the strikes specifically hit the Al-Hali and Ras Katheeb electrical stations as well as the ports, which they allege are used by the Houthi regime to transfer Iranian weapons and military supplies. “Through the attacked infrastructure and ports, the Houthi regime transfers Iranian weapons to the region, and supplies for military needs, and thus also oil,” read a statement from the Israeli military. The IDF described the airstrikes as a direct response to recent Houthi attacks on Israel.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also commented on the operation via social media, stating that he had monitored the strike from an Air Force control room. “No place is too far for Israel’s reach,” Gallant declared, reinforcing Israel’s readiness to act against threats originating from Iranian-aligned groups.
Al-Masirah TV, which is operated by the Houthi forces, reported that the strikes took place on Sunday, corroborating that they had targeted the ports and electrical infrastructure. The Houthis, an Iran-backed militia, have increasingly clashed with Israel following the October 7 Hamas attacks, citing their solidarity with the Palestinian cause as the motivation for their actions.
This latest Israeli military action further intensifies tensions in the Middle East, particularly following the recent killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Nasrallah's death has raised concerns of a broader regional conflict involving Iran and its network of proxy groups, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.
