In a recent announcement, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg revealed that NATO allies and partner countries have delivered nearly 98% of the combat vehicles promised to Ukraine during Russia's war. The delivery of over 1,550 armoured vehicles, 230 tanks, and other equipment has given Ukraine a significant boost as it contemplates launching a counteroffensive against Russian aggression.
Additionally, NATO allies have provided vast amounts of ammunition and have trained and equipped more than nine new Ukrainian brigades. These new brigades are estimated to comprise over 30,000 troops and will be instrumental in Ukraine's efforts to retake its occupied territory.
Some NATO partner countries, such as Sweden and Australia, have also contributed armoured vehicles to Ukraine's arsenal. Stoltenberg praised the delivery of the combat vehicles, saying that it will put Ukraine in a strong position to continue to retake occupied territory.
The delivery of the pledged combat vehicles represents a significant milestone for NATO's support to Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia. The conflict began in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine, sparking a conflict in eastern Ukraine that has claimed over 13,000 lives.
The ongoing support from NATO allies and partner countries underscores the importance of international cooperation in the face of Russian aggression. As Ukraine continues to struggle with ongoing hostilities, the delivery of combat vehicles and other equipment will provide much-needed support to the country's efforts to maintain its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
