Several experts have claimed that Vladimir Putin's choice to invade Ukraine about a year ago was a serious geopolitical mistake.
Additionally, a businessman known as one of the best energy dealers in the world claims that Russia will suffer long-term harm that is not simply limited to its military, despite the fact that Moscow's troops have suffered a string of failures over the past 12 months.
In a Financial Times interview, Pierre Andurand stated, "I think Putin lost the energy battle.
"High natural gas and electricity costs in Europe were very detrimental for the global economy, but they have now decreased to a more manageable level.
"There won't be as much concern about inflation and interest rate increases if gas prices stay where they are. An energy catastrophe is no longer feared.
Why would Europe ever switch back now that they are accustomed to live without Russian gas?
The Russian leader, according to him, "massively underestimated who had the leverage... in the same way he overestimated how Ukraine would fight back and the West would be unified."
It will take at least ten years to build enough pipelines to divert those gas sales to Asia, according to him, and Russia has therefore permanently lost its largest consumer.
"Once China is the only country that Russia can export gas to, Beijing will be able to set the price."
