A Russian-guided bomb attack on Zaporizhzhia, a southeastern city in Ukraine, killed four people and wounded 18 on Thursday, devastating residential areas and damaging an oncology center, according to Ukrainian officials. Regional governor Ivan Fedorov shared details on the Telegram messaging app, noting that among the injured were a four-month-old girl and two boys aged one and ten.
Five strikes hit Zaporizhzhia, leaving two people in critical condition and triggering an ongoing rescue operation, with fears that more people could be trapped under the rubble. Images posted by Fedorov reveal the extensive damage: destroyed buildings, shattered windows, and houses with facades ripped apart. Inside the medical facility, blood trails and broken glass littered the stairs, illustrating the devastation caused by the blast waves.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attack, saying such actions mock any claims of openness to peace negotiations from Russia. "They take pleasure in killing people," Zelenskiy remarked on X (formerly Twitter).
This assault comes amid an escalation of Russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding region. Fedorov reported nearly 11,000 attacks on the region in October alone, underscoring the intensifying conflict in southeastern Ukraine.
