Stadium in Kolkata. India rode on the brilliance of Sunil Chhetri to beat Afghanistan 2-1 in a tough Group D match in Kolkata on Saturday, June 11.
In a video shared widely online, 3 players from Afghanistan and 2 from the Indian side are seen initially pushing and shoving before the scuffle escalates. India's star goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh rushes to put things to rest but is pushed off by Afghanistan players who gather in large numbers. There was a business of shirt pulling and beatings before the two classes of players separated. It is not known why the scuffle broke out after the high-quality match was over.
Earlier in the day, India emerged victorious and boosted their chances of reaching the Asian Cup final in 2023. With the win over Afghanistan, days after their victory over Cambodia, India moved up to the second spot with 6 points along with the Group D toppers.
