The major weather begins in March and continues through June when the temperatures fluctuate from 15°C to 25°C. It is perfect for traveling or sightseeing; the beautiful rhododendron is maximized during this time. It is ideal for a trip to Tsomgo Lake, Nathula Pass, and the tea gardens in Darjeeling.

 

This is the autumn season, with cooler temperatures, 10°C to 20°C, in the regional months of September-November, without the haze obscuring the Himalayas. Besides visiting attractions such as Tiger Hill and Rumtek Monastery, these months are ideal for trekking and birding.

 

This region is best avoided during the monsoon period, from July to August, as the rains cause landslides and make movement very hard. Winters are also suitable for traveling as December and February may experience snowfall, especially if they are in the highlands.

By Air: The closest airport is Bagdogra (124 km from Gangtok and 68km from Darjeeling). Rent taxis and shared cabs are also available from Bagdogra.

 

By Train: The nearest railway station to Darjeeling is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), from which trains are connected to cities like Kolkata and Delhi. The NJP is a bustling town where you can get taxis or shared cabs to Gangtok, Darjeeling, and Sikkim.

 

By Road: Sikkim, Darjeeling, and Gangtok are well-connected by roads. Buses and Taxis from Siliguri, NJP, and Bagdogra are frequent.
