The United Nations has rewritten the Republic of Turkey's state name at the organization from "Turkey" to "Türkiye," heeding a proposal from Ankara for the modification.
U.N. representative Stephane Dujarric announced that a message had been accepted on Wednesday from the Turkish foreign official Mevlut Cavusoglu approached Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, soliciting the usage of "Türkiye" instead of "Turkey" for all affairs.
The representative confessed that the state name change came to be important from the moment the letter was acquired. Cavusoglu declared the letter's authorized recommendation to the U.N. and other international organizations.
"Together with our Directorate of Communications, we have successfully prepared a good ground for this," proclaimed the letter.
"We have made it possible for the U.N. and other international organizations to witness this modification wielding 'Türkiye,'" Cavusoglu notified Anadolu Agency. Turkey commenced the move to remake its internationally recognized authorized name in English to Türkiye in December after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan circulated a memorandum and implored the public to use Türkiye to characterize the Country in every language.
"Türkiye is endorsed as an umbrella denomination for our nation in national and international fora," Erdogan announced. "Türkiye is the best manifestation and manner of the Turkish people's civilization, culture, and values."
Erdogan also instructed corporations to employ "made in Türkiye" for their shipped goods and notified state agents to use Türkiye in their correspondence.
