UK politics: Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss to face a head-to-head debate

Worldopress Desk

The Tory leadership candidates are now set to have their first ever TV debate tonight; this TV debate will help to convince supporters to decide whom to vote for.

Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss will appear in front of live television and discuss their pledges on immigration, China, and tax cuts. Mr. Sunak will be keen to narrow the gap between him and the Foreign Secretary, who has the edge ahead of him as a favorite to be the next PM.

After the debate, leadership husting will take place around the city in the coming week, where many members won't get a chance to meet candidates and be told firsthand about their planned policies.

So the debate could be the last opportunity for both of them to claim to be the country's next leader before 160,000 Tory members vote next week.

The debate will be presented by Sophie Raworth and take place in Stoke-on- Trent; this has been chosen because it is one of the many constituencies won by the conservatives for the first time at the last general elections in 2019; the live tv debate will be aired on BBC.
