Carrollton, Virginia – What started as a frustrating mix-up at a local convenience store turned into a life-changing moment for Kelly Lindsay, a resident of Carrollton, Virginia.
Lindsay had requested a specific lottery ticket at a Race Way Carrollton gas station on 13028 Carrollton Boulevard, but the cashier mistakenly handed her a Money Blitz scratch-off instead. Initially annoyed, she decided to scratch the ticket in the parking lot, only to be left in utter shock—she had just won the $2 million (Rs 17,32,83,100) top prize.
“And I got over not being happy about it,” Lindsay said, recalling her initial frustration over receiving the wrong ticket.
Opting for a one-time lump sum payment, Lindsay took home $1,250,000 after taxes.
According to The Metro, the odds of winning the top prize in the Money Blitz game were one in 1,142,400. Lindsay's winning ticket was one of only two grand prizes available, with the second prize still unclaimed. The overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 3.29.
Lindsay resides in Isle of Wight County, which last year received over $3.7 million from the Virginia Lottery to support K-12 education. The Virginia Lottery contributes all its profits to education, generating over $934 million last year—accounting for 10% of the state's total education budget.
In a celebratory moment, Lindsay was photographed holding a large ceremonial check displaying her winnings alongside a replica of the lucky scratcher ticket, beaming with joy at her unexpected fortune.
